College Application Process

  • Write, call or use the Internet to request information and an application for admission.

  • Decide how to apply.  Online Common Applications have become the preferred method for many colleges.  If you prefer, you may have your paper application mailed directly from the high school.  Submit the application with the application fee, essay (if required) and any other supporting documents to the College Counseling Office.  Regardless of how you apply, you must get a transcript request form from the College Counseling Office.  No information will be mailed for you without this form completed for each and every application you submit.

  • Allow ten (10) working days for the College Counseling Office to process your request.  Last minute requests may not get out and a missed deadline is a missed opportunity.

  • Be neat. Do your own work.  Print or write clearly.  You do not have to have it typewritten, but neatness counts.  Do a mock copy first, then the one you plan to submit.

  • Make sure you answer all the questions.  Do not leave anything blank.  High School information is noted below.  Make sure you sign and date your application.  The college will return your application if you have not signed it.

  • Find out if the college requires official SAT or ACT scores.  If they do, that means you have to request the report to come directly from ETS to the college.  Your SAT and ACT scores are on your transcript and many colleges do accept that.

  • Finally, and most important, know deadline dates.  Or, to be more accurate, you should know the priority deadline date.  Remember that the early bird catches the worm.  Don't delay in getting your applications out.  If you have an application that is due January 1st to the 5th, you must submit the completed application or transcript to the College Counseling Office by the 1st week of December.
