As per Colonial Middle School Policy and documented in our school handbook:
Students are eligible to participate in sports and music programs or other extra-curricular activities provided they are not failing any subjects, and maintain acceptable conduct according to the CSD discipline code and Code of Ethics.
Students may practice with teams during the period of ineligibility, but cannot dress for, travel to, or participate in interscholastic athletic events or public presentations.
Eligibility Rules are as follows
Failing 1 subject = Eligible (In Warning)
Failing 1 subject (2 weeks in a row) = Ineligible
Failing 2 classes = Ineligible
Interventions are in place to ensure students have the proper support necessary (Extra assistance in class, before/after school help, learning time). During activity period on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, students ineligible must attend a Mandatory Work Session in the Library from 2:20 – 2:55 to make up work and/or complete homework. Students who fail to attend these work sessions will not be permitted to practice on those days.
Our goal is for all student-athletes to perform at a high academic level and we urge all parents to continue monitoring student progress.
If you do have any questions regarding your child’s grade, please contact the classroom teacher or feel free to contact the athletic director, Maico, at mazcona@colonialsd.org .
