Information Literacy:
"To be information literate, a person must be able to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information" (American Library Association, 1989).
The model used in Information Literacy for all K-3 Buildings is known as the "Super 3™. Building off this structure, students have graduated to the "Big 6" Research Process here at the 4-5 building.

2011 - Mrs. Missimer's 5th grade Science Research Project - create a model Coral Reef in the Science Process Skills classroom:

Research Process:

students gathered & assembled required information about assigned topic (reef fish or plant)

students used traditional print, online database and Internet sources in the Library Media Center and the Science Classroom.

Students wrote three paragraphs about the topic.

Students cited sources (MLA format).
-
Students created a (life-size, when possible) model of their topic (reef fish or plant).
-
Students displayed model in the appropriate reef level of the "classroom reef" (fringing, barrier, or atoll) with written report.
