Adventure Unit
- I. Essential Purpose
-
The adventure challenge unit is designed to develop a variety of skills including coping with fear, decision making, cooperation, trust, responsibility for helping others, problem solving as well as values and social skills. The activities in this unit involve and element of risk in order to stimulate and element of fear – which is key in adventure education. Students will develop knowledge of skills that can be used in a variety of settings inside and outside of school to promote a positive environment for work and play.

- Teamwork is working together with 1 or more people in a positive way in which ideas are shared and listened to and then executed.
- Teamwork is useful everywhere! Classroom, gym, playground, at home, sports practices, etc.
- Examples of positive behavior are being a good listener, trying one another’s ideas, expressing ideas when it is your turn, saying supportive things to each other, not yelling or arguing
- Problem solving strategies – ask students for what strategies they used.
- Talking and listening to the idea that sounds most productive and trying it at least a couple of times. If it didn’t work, coming back together to establish a new plan and continue to work and try each other’s plans until something work.
