Elementary Language Arts Curriculum
The elementary language arts curriculum is designed as a continuum from Kindergarten to grade three. Based on child development theory, the curriculum reflects a range of skills needed for all learners to successfully meet Pennsylvania Academic Standards and is aligned with the guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Reading Panel. The curriculum is built on the principles of a comprehensive, balanced approach to literacy, incorporating essential components of modeled, shared, interactive, guided, and independent reading and writing. Using a repertoire of research-based literacy practices, the language arts curriculum actively engages the minds of students with a range of spoken, written, and electronic texts. Students will become successful learners prepared for the challenges of subsequent educational levels.
