A comprehensive nutritional analysis of the lunch meals is completed monthly. This analysis includes all components of the meal as set forth by the USDA including protein, bread, 1/2 cup fruit, 1/2 cup vegetable, and 8 oz fluid milk. It is done for the main/featured item daily.
Please keep in mind that occasionally food service vendors may have to substitute products; thus the nutritional analysis could be effected slightly. It is strongly recommended that this nutritional analysis be used as a guide to make healthy food choices, and not to be relied on solely for medical purposes (example: diabetic students should follow diet plan as prescribed by doctor)
Here are some of the steps we've taken to improve the nutritional quality of our program.
- All sandwiches at the elementary level are made on whole white wheat bread.
- No foods in the district are deep fried.
- No sodas are sold in the district during the school day.
- Organic healthy vending machines are located in the middle and high school.
- New cooking equipment placed this year helps better retain nutrients.
- Fresh fruit, vegetables, and salads are offered daily.
- Sushi is offered weekly at the high school.
- 75% of the ice cream sold at the elementary level contains less than 6g total fat, 2g or less of saturated fat, and 15g or less of sugar.
- Nutrition committee meets quarterly to discuss and evaluate menu options.
- Our milk contains no added hormones or antibiotics.
