Bruno appointed to seat on Colonial School Board The Colonial Board of School Directors appointed Lenora V. Bruno to the vacant seat on the School Board during a special meeting on December 15. Bruno, a long time District resident and community servant, will fill the final year of Dr. Pascal Scoles’ term. Scoles resigned for professional reasons in September. “All of our candidates were highly qualified and displayed a commitment to the students in the Colonial School District,” said School Board President Marc Orlow. “However, Lenora’s extensive community service and her past experience with the District distinguished her from the others. We are fortunate to have Board members who truly appreciate the value of a quality public education and are dedicated to devoting significant time and energy to ensure that our children have the best resources and learning environment possible. Lenora will be a valuable compliment to our current Board members.” A long time Plymouth Township resident, Ms. Bruno was a member of the Plymouth Township Council from 2001 through 2008. She previously served on the Colonial School Board from 1987 through 1994 and has served on the Boards of the Colonial Foundation for Educational Innovation and the Colonial Exchange Club. She was a member of the Plymouth Township Parks and Recreation Board from 1993 through 1999 and held leadership roles with the Conshohocken Fun Fest Committee. “I am honored to once again be a member of the Colonial School board,” Ms. Bruno said. “I feel that the Colonial School District is one of the cornerstones of our three communities. The leadership provided by the School Board, the administration, teachers, staff and parents has continued to make this district a place of quality education. I look forward to working with everyone to continue to improve the educational programs for all of our students.” A healthcare worker, Bruno is a graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and the Roxborough Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
Board approves 2009-2010 calendar The Colonial Board of School Directors approved a 2009-2010 school year calendar at their regularly scheduled public business meeting on November 20. The calendar establishes Monday, August 31 as the first day of school and Friday, June 11 as the final day of school. The Board engaged in considerable debate before departing from their recent practice of starting school after the Labor Day holiday. “Starting school after Labor Day just isn’t feasible next year because the holiday falls so late in the calendar,” said School Board President Marc Orlow. “In order to keep the calendar consistent with the current calendar and still end school during the second week of June, we need to start the school year earlier.”
